Why do you like that kind of creepy stuff?
I suppose it's just kind of my thing....
Halloween was my favorite holiday as a kid, and it probably still is now. My older brother let me watch R rated horror movies when I was probably too young to do so, and he otherwise informed a lot of my tastes because....well, I love my older brother and I think he's cool.
He showed me stuff like Venom and Carnage and Ghost Rider and it just kind of never left my mind. I also grew up with Goosebumps books. Scary stories and topics and horror were just always pretty close to my heart. I used to check out this book about "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" over, and over, and over again because I was obsessed with ghoulies, ghasts and monsters.
Hell, other kids my age were making stick figures that had dresses or swords or whatever else kids normally do with stick figures while I was making "30ft tall" stick figures with spikes all over them and sharp teeth.
I didn't really get to express or present myself that much (or atleast in the way I wanted to) in highschool, so post-graduation I took a hard left turn into...well, what a lot of people might just boil down to "edge".
A lot of people throw that term around like an insult, but being edgy can be fun! It's pure self indulgence and authenticity, which is extremely liberating, but that's besides the point.
To summarize, it's just familiar, nostalgic, cathartic and comforting to me. It's validating, gender-affirming, and just plain fun.
Plus I look best in the color black.

KANGAROO ISLAND 22 & 23 April 2024
After an overnight stay in Adelaide we were on the road early on 22 April to drive to Cape Jervis to the car ferry to Kangaroo Island. We drove through an area which is know as the Fleurieu Peninsula to get to Cape Jervis. Much of it is farmland but with an attractive coastline. After the 50 minutes on the ferry we arrived in Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. We were able to book into our hotel in Penneshaw, leave the luggage and be on the road again very quickly.
We went to explore American River so we drove west from Penneshaw and around an area which looks like a lake and is in fact a sheltered inlet from the sea. Part of it is known as Pelican Lagoon and we soon found some:
Tumblr media
On exploring other parts of this coastline we found a huge number of black swans:
Tumblr media
We returned to our hotel allowing time to drive there in reasonable light given the warnings of the high risk of hitting wildlife in the road in darkness, dusk and dawn. Sadly throughout our time on Kangaroo Island, we passed dead animals on the side of the road that must have been killed by vehicles.
On the morning of the 23 April we set off to a point 30 minutes west of Penneshaw near American River to be met by a tour guide. We had the most fantastic day with this guide. We were a group of 6 in total. Our guide found various species of wildlife for us to see during the day and also told us a great deal about life on Kangaroo Island including living with wildfire risk. He explained how challenging the fires of 2019/20 were and how the island is recovering.
Over the day our guide pointed out trees where koala bears were either asleep in the branches or they were feeding. We stopped the minibus at least four times to see koalas and each time there were several. Each time we stepped out he did remind us to look out for snakes but thankfully we didn’t find any snakes all day. ( Last week he did a tour where a snake slithered over a tourist’s foot while they were looking for koalas and of course all Australian snakes are venomous!) Here is my favourite photo of a koala that we saw feeding:
Tumblr media
We came across a group of wallabies near a beach on the north coast. They are very good at camouflage. There are two in this photo:
Tumblr media
We spotted one foraging under a bush:
Tumblr media
We saw lots of kangaroos during our day trip. They are difficult to photograph because, as soon as they realise humans are approaching they hop off! The kangaroos were often in groups of 3. We learnt this is because the group consists of a mother with a young joey kangaroo and the joey’s older sister who assists the mother.
Tumblr media
We also did see kangaroos on their own:
Tumblr media
We were amazed at one point during the day when our guide was driving on a road and two kangaroos came out of the bushes in front of the minibus and hopped down the road in front of us. It all happened too fast for a photo but was an astonishing experience.
We were taken to Seal Bay which is a conservation area ironically for sea lions. There were lots of sea lions to see. We watched this sea lion with a young pup move from the sand dunes to the sea:
Tumblr media
It was a beautiful bay and sea lions were widely scattered on the beach and sand dunes resting after being out at sea feeding for up to 3 days at a time.
Tumblr media
We saw some different birds during the day including several sightings of huge eagles. These will swoop down and carry off a wallaby with no problem.
During the day at lunchtime we were given a superb BBQ lunch of the highest quality all cooked by our tour guide.
We learnt a great deal about the major fire of 2019/20. It was great to see where dead trees destroyed by the fire had lots of new growth all around them. We were also told about the controlled burning that is done by forestry experts to reduce risk of fire spread but also as an important method of stimulating regrowth. Some plants will only open their seed pods to reproduce following fire. Here is what regeneration looks like:
Tumblr media
During our day trip we travelled to the south of Kangaroo Island to Seal Bay, through the central area of the island seeing koalas and up to the north coast to see wallabies at Snelling Beach. Kangaroos were widely prevalent.

Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Day 71/72 – Hong Kong → Manilla → Cairns
In the evening I took the MTR out to Hong Kong’s airport, boarding my flight with Philippines Air, bound for Cairns, Australia. In the scramble of re-routing my flights over the previous days, I was scheduled to take a red-eye with an overnight layover in Manila. As someone who usually can’t sleep a wink on an airplane, this leg of my journey was particularly fatiguing. Fortunately, my first flight was not without a silver lining, as I was in for a pleasant surprise once our on-board dinner was served. Simply put, Philippines Air easily had the best plane food I had ever experienced: perfectly seasoned chicken adobo with a hearty side of rice.
Navigating through the terminals of Manila Airport during the wee hours of the morning, I eventually found my transfer gate to Cairns and tiredly plopped myself in a corner, curling up next to my pack. In the hours that followed, I dazedly realized that the secondary screening next to my gate was actually for Quarantine purposes – as there were no bathrooms, water fountains or shops in the vicinity. Unfortunately, this also meant I was not even allowed to bring water with me onto my next flight! This was certainly an eye-opening realization for me, as I could see just how seriously Australia takes biosecurity to protect their unique agriculture and wildlife.
After nine hours in air on my second flight, we gradually began our descent into Cairns, located on the Northeastern coast of Australia. It was a beautiful bluebird morning, with patches of dark coral reef occasionally visible beneath the shimmering ocean below. Descending the air stairs onto the tarmac, I was immediately hit by a powerful wave of heat. Although I had travelled to Cairns with my family well over a decade earlier, the distant memory of intense heat and humidity was quickly brought to the forefront, as I breathed in the thick, tropical air of Queensland.
Having secured my ETA Visa in advance, my Canadian Passport allowed me to easily pass through the electronic gate in the small airport. Collecting my pack quickly at the baggage carousel, I was heartened by the thought of finding a bed to sleep in shortly. And as my luck would have it – a customs official thought otherwise. At the time, I did not realize how suspicious a single backpacker travelling from Asia was – but in my following weeks in Aus, I heard countless stories of backpackers being connected with drug trafficking through countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines. Over the following hour, the customs agent thoroughly examined each item in my pack – swabbing everything from my toothbrush to flip-flops to test for trace amounts of cocaine and other drugs. Although I had nothing to hide, the entire process still came with a certain amount of apprehension, as I had heard stories of drugs and contraband being planted in luggage. After finally receiving the all clear, the customs official waved me on my way, with a comical parting comment: “you have to be the neatest backpacker I’ve ever seen!”, referring to my many packing cubes and vacuum packs. With a tired chuckle, I trudged out of the airport, briefly stopping to pick up a new SIM card on my way to catch the airport shuttle into town.

Travellers Oasis
Blasting A/C and country music, the shuttle cruised along a series of palm-lined boulevards and roundabouts leading into Cairns. After more than 24-hours in transit, I was thrilled to finally arrive at Travellers Oasis, a charming, family run hostel a short walk from the city centre. This hostel was easily a top favourite from my entire trip. I was originally a bit concerned about staying in hostels in Australia, as I knew that Aus had a younger backpacker scene compared to other places I had travelled. This was forgotten immediately as I was welcomed into the hostel’s laidback, tropical oasis, and was met with a mix of travellers of all ages. After a much needed power nap, Gabriel, the hostel owner, walked me through all of my options for open-water certifications in the Great Barrier Reef. I was thrilled that there was a last minute spot on one of the “liveaboard” boats, and booked a 3-day, 2-night open water certification with Reef Encounter, starting a few days later.
Tumblr media
I spent the late afternoon wandering the palm-lined boulevards of Cairns, shopping for more appropriate clothes to match Queensland’s overpowering humidity.  Sweaty and dusty after a long day, I plunged into the hostel pool in the evening, sharing cold beers and trading Australia tips with fellow visitors from Switzerland, Canada, Britain and the US. Gabriel, the hostel owner, and his daughter Poppy had organized a delicious pizza dinner for us, which we ate family style – gathered around wooden tables under the tropical foliage. Full and very tired – I crashed shortly afterwards, but not before loading the air conditioning machine in my room with all my spare change (The only drawback of the hostel – no free A/C!)
Day 73 – Cairns
Sleeping in and shaking off my jet-lag, I fixed myself breakfast and set myself up at a shady poolside table for the day, gearing up for a crash course in scuba diving! After signing myself up for my open water certification the previous day, I had been given a thick manual to read, along with test questions to respond to as I worked through the course. I found the material surprisingly challenging, as there was a substantial amount of physics and biology involved – taking me back to my undergrad at Western! As I went through the course, I took regular breaks to cool off the pool, and Facetimed a few friends and family back home.
After finishing the scuba coursework in the late afternoon, I met up with a Dutch and English girl, and we headed out into the town to explore. Walking towards the wharf as the evening fell, we began to hear the high-pitched screeches from a massive colony of fruit bats, who were just beginning to wake up as the sun was setting. Dangling from trees near the city centre, these large, black “megabats” have a wingspan of up to 1.6 metres!
We continued onwards to the Cairns Night Market, an open-air bazaar with local goods for sale, Australian food products, souvenirs and food stalls with cuisine from all over the world. A much more relaxed night market compared to the souks of Morocco and food alleys in China, we meandered the stalls and checked out the range of products for sale. Leaving the market behind, we strolled along the nearby wharf, lined with dark palms swaying in the balmy ocean breeze. Nearing the ocean, I was immediately struck by the number of large, yellow signs, warning of the dangers of swimming due to the large number of saltwater crocodiles, or “Salties” which inhabit the area. In addition to crocodiles, these warm ocean waters are also home to a variety of jellyfish known as “stingers”, including large box jellyfish and the tiny Irukandji jellyfish, both of which are considered to be among the world’s most venomous species. Since it is far too risky to swim off the picturesque beaches of the town (and a such a shame, at that!) a large, manmade lagoon has been built next to the ocean - for a croc and jellyfish free swimming option!
Tumblr media
The girls and I ended our evening at a lively Cantina in town, sharing a few pitchers of Sangria on the patio, and swapping stories from respective countries late into the night.
Day 74-76 – The Reef
I packed a small bag in the morning, leaving my pack behind at the hostel as I set out towards Marlin Wharf, the busy departure point for snorkeling and scuba diving trips in the Great Barrier Reef. Navigating through crowds of day-trippers, I located the small catamaran which would transport me to the Reef Encounter, my floating home for the next three days. As we cast off from port, the humidity and heat gradually eased off as we ventured further into the coral sea.
Tumblr media
My home for the next three days!
Arriving aboard the Reef Encounter, I was shown to my small portside cabin, which I was sharing with Poppy (the hostel owner’s daughter – who happened to be taking her open water certification at the same time!). After a delicious lunch and thorough orientation the boat’s safety procedures, I was introduced to Anna and Nick, our open water instructors, and Elmira, a Russian teacher who was taking the course with me. Anna and Nick, a couple from Spain and Germany (respectively), wasted no time in suiting us up in full scuba gear, complete with buoyancy compensators (BCDs), weight belts, an oxygen tank, regulators, masks, and flippers. We were also fitted in bright blue, Lycra stinger suits – certainly no fashion statement, but necessary protection against the lethal jellyfish and fierce sun of Northern Australia. After running us through equipment set up and safety checks with our diving partner, Anna and Nick had us get in the water, rolling off the back of the boat in our inflated BCDs!
Tumblr media
A few fantastic underwater snapshots - courtesy of our on-board photographer!
The next three days were simply magical, and were my favourite days of travel up until that point. We were completely immersed into a spectacular world of colour and marine life, and completed 10 dives in total, some at the crack of dawn, and one night dive!It was definitely hard work, as Anna and Nick put us through our paces, practicing countless essential skills from controlled descent/ascent, equalizing our ears, underwater emergency drills, breath control, energy conservation and oxygen monitoring.
Tumblr media
Spotting a hiding cuttlefish in the reef
As we became more and more comfortable in the water, it became easier to relax and appreciate the breathtaking underwater landscape around us. From swimming next to technicolour cliffs of swaying coral, drifting past giant sea turtles, and swimming next to hunting reef sharks and giant trevallys (during a night swim!) – there are no words I could use to fully describe this astounding wonder of the natural world. The distortion of images and sounds deep in the ocean was also fascinating – a fish biting a piece of coral feet away sounded as loud as someone crunching on cereal next to my ear! I also kept bumping into things - my depth perception questionable now that I was 9 meters underwater.
Tumblr media
During our time onboard, The Reef Endeavour took us to several different dive sites scattered around the Outer Barrier Reef, including Norman, Saxon and Hastings Reef. As we moved between the many dive sites, Elmira and I practiced filling out our logbooks, tracking our maximum depth, bottom time, water conditions, and calculating our residual nitrogen levels using dive tables.  An added benefit of staying overnight on a liveaboard boat is that we could begin diving as early as 7am – plunging into the crystal clear water long before any other day trips had set out from Cairns.  These early dives were equally captivating as those at night, as we could see the reef waking up – coral opening and tilting towards the morning sun above, and sleeping reef sharks drifting along the sandy ocean floor. Fascinating fact about sleeping sharks – by sleeping in moving tidal currents, water naturally flows through their gills, allowing them to breathe when asleep!
Tumblr media
After three perfect days, I completed my last dive with Anna and Nick, wrote my open water certification test, and officially received my Open Water Diving Certification through Scuba Schools International (SSI)! The full-immersion into the diving program allowed me to learn quickly and improve after every dive, and during my time on the boat, I would constantly catch myself thinking - why didn’t I do this 10 years ago?!
Tumblr media
On my final day of diving, I met a fellow scuba diver named Carlos, a medical resident on placement from Barcelona. As we returned to the mainland, I joined him and his 3 Spanish friends for dinner and beers in Cairns, where we tried crocodile and kangaroo (which were delicious, for the record!). After comically trying to recall my high school Spanish for a few hours, my newfound friends and I parted ways just as heavy drops of rain began to fall. Sprinting back to my hostel in the middle of a pounding tropical thunderstorm, I arrived drenched – but happy and exhilarated.

countlessscreamingargonauts replied to your post: You know people are really worried about the new...
In the BOOK. The freaking source of all things Losers…in the end, It was a Spider. Because what they were really looking at was an indescribable Lovecraftian eldergod hellbeast from Mid world. So yeah. They better keep the spider.
I know but they’ve already said they’re shaking up Its forms updating them to be more modern which y’know i get is fine The Teenage Werewolf and The Mummy and The Creature From the Black Lagoon aren’t exactly relevant any more i still would’ve loved to see them though especially The Creature because that is by far the goofiest-looking Universal Monster but the way King describes it is just....chilling anyway what was i saying oh yeah i know they’ve already said they’re mixing up what forms It takes and they can’t exactly show “endless, crawling, hairy creature made of writhing, orange, destructive  light” on-screen but like when was the last time you saw a giant spider played straight for scares, y’know? It doesn’t really happen these days plus in whatshisface Cary Fukunaga? In his original script treatment instead of a spider it was a giant....tentacle....eye thing at the bottom of like a lake? Idk it was weird but yeah i’m worried about the status of the spider
I mean look it’s got a stinger and a hugely distended egg-sac hanging from its abdomen and its saliva and venom are both alive and writhe away when they drip onto the floor which is super weird and fucked-up like its description is scary as fuck in the book and it’s described as the spider is like there’s some other shape just behind it they can almost see and they can see if they look for too long and it’s all very effective but i’m worried about how well it’ll translate to film i mean the miniseries’ attempt was a catastrophic failure

My favourite mangas and mangakas #05
* 01 - Akira Toriyama * 02 - Boichi * 03 - Takeshi Obata * 04 - Yukito Kishiro
Hey there, it’s been a while since I told you about my favourite mangas and mangakas, last time it was Yukito Kishiro and Gunnm and today I’m going to tell you about Rei Hiroe and Black Lagoon.
Tumblr media
Black Lagoon is probably more famous as an anime but before that, it’s a great manga that I encourage you to read if you haven’t. The first of the ten volumes was released back in 2002 and the series still goes on but Rei Hiroe takes his time to publish new chapters (he probably has a lot of other things to do and wants to give the best he can on BL).
If you like gangster movies and video games like GTA, you’ll definitely love Black Lagoon! It tells the stories of a band of mercenaries located in South-East Asia and usually working for bad people like the russian mob or the chinese triads. The main character (pictured above) is called Revy and she’s... quite violent. Well, all the ladies in BL are ruthless and that’s what I like about it. For once, women have the lead and they’re not stupid kids or something like that: you fear them. Blalaika, Shenhua, Eda, Roberta... and more, they’re all merciless killers, which makes the story full of fist fights, gun fights, torpedo boat VS helicopter fights and so on.
Let’s take a look at several editions of the manga:
Tumblr media
The original japanese version is in the middle and on the left you can see the north-american version and the french edition on the right side. As you can see, the american edition is bigger and that’s why I bought all of the volumes from VIZ Media instead of the french edition by Kazé. I like large formats, it’s always a good way to appreciate all the efforts the author has put in his art.
Take a look at a few pages from these different versions. I’ve picked action-packed sequences for you to see how awesome those are:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s a glimpse of my Black Lagoon collection (top: manga, middle: artbooks, bottom: anime):
Tumblr media
The animated series by Madhouse is very well done as well. It’s composed of two seasons and a third one comprised of 5 OVAs called “Roberta’s blood trail”. Obviously I recommend the Japanese audio but to be honest, the English dialogues aren’t too bad.
Tumblr media
That’s it for Black Lagoon, if you’ve never read/seen it, I recommend it: you won’t be disappointed!
Here’s everything about BL on ArtbookIsland:

On the Inca Trail
IMPORTANT: due to the great demand that this excursion has, the Peruvian government in its eagerness to protect the Inca road network has limited access to the Inca trail from 4 days to 500 people per day being an approximate of 180 tourists and the rest of the personal help (guides, cooks and porters).
In this sense If you want to make the excursion in the month of October to January we recommend making your reservation more than 3 months in advance and with 6 or more months in advance for the months of March to September due to the quotas for this season They sell out quickly.
This year we have had innumerable emails requesting quotas for the Inca Trail for the months of March, April, May, June, July, August, September but unfortunately the quotas were already exhausted and could not give you any hope of getting one.
That is why our recommendation to book your reservation to the Inca trail well in advance so as not to have last minute disappointments.
Below we provide information about the Inca Trail.
One of the 7 wonders of the world
Part of the 23,000 kilometers (approximately 14,000 miles) of roads built by the Incas in South America. It is the most famous route for hiking in Peru and possibly the most spectacular in the Americas. Each year, more than 25,000 walkers from around the world walk along the 43 kilometers of this cobbled road built by the Incas that leads to the amazing Machupicchu citadel located deep in the jungle of Cusco. The trip begins in the town of Pisqacucho, at kilometer 82 of the Cusco - Quillabamba railway line and takes 3 to 4 days of intense trekking. The route includes an impressive variety of altitudes, climates and ecosystems that goes from the tips to the cloud forest. Travelers will cross two high altitude passes (the highest will be being in Warmiwañuska at 4,200 m.a.s.l.) to finish the hike with a magical entrance to Machupicchu through the Inti Punku or Puerta del Sol.
Inca Trail to Machupicchu
One of the main attractions along the route is the ancient network of settlements built in granite rock by the Incas such as Wiñay Wayna and Phuyupatamarca immersed in an overwhelming natural setting. Hundreds of varieties of orchids, multicolored birds, and dreamlike landscapes provide the ideal setting for a route that the walker should walk at least once.
Description of the Inca Trail to Machupicchu route
Based on the traditional 4 days / 3 nights
The total distance of the road is approximately 39.6 km and starts at km 82 at the place called Pisqacucho. To start the road you should cross a bridge, then head to the left side through a eucalyptus orchard and start the day calmly.
Almost immediately you will meet the archaeological complexes of Q’ente, Pulpituyoc, Kusichaca and Patallaca. From that last point you will continue the path along the left bank of the Kusichaca River in the area with the same name where you will not only see the bridge but also find tombs, aqueducts, terraces, roads and a canyon. You will continue until you reach the small town of Wayllabamba and Inca aqueducts. It takes about 4 hours to reach 9 km from this point. One will camp there the first night.
The second day is more difficult, because the walker will have to climb up to 4,200 meters, crossing the passage of Warmiwañusqa, the first and the highest. If you suffer from “soroche” (altitude sickness) it is best not to stop or descend quickly to the Pakaymayu river valley, where you can camp. This place is 7 km away and is approximately 8 hours away.
The third day is the longest but the most interesting. You will be ready to visit the most impressive complexes such as Runkuraqay, the second step at 3,800 meters above sea level, its complex yellowed with niches that were perhaps a small place to rest, guard posts and places for worship after crossing the Second step you descend to Yanacocha (The Black Lagoon) and then climb a path with stone steps to reach another group of buildings which attract the attention of visitors. This point is called Sayaqmarka a pre-Hispanic complex with narrow streets, buildings erected on different levels; sanctuaries, courtyards, canals and an outer wall of protection. At the top of the buttresses one can observe many constructions which lead to suppose that once it was a temple and an astronomical observatory, which had a permanent supply of water and excellent food stores.
Sayaqmarka is a place full of mystery and charm. The approximate distance to Runkuraqay is 5 Km. Which takes 2 hours. This complex extends to 3,600 meters above sea level. There is an excellent trail and a tunnel through this complex. We recommend camping near the ruins of Phuyupatamarca or 3 km later in the visitor center of Wiñay Wayna, where one can buy food and drinks or make use of hygienic services. The ruins of Phuyupatamarca are better preserved than we have seen before.
On the fourth day, which will start around 5:00 A.M., the walker arrives in Machupicchu around 7:00 A.M. after 8 km of hiking through the jungle. Follow the indicated route and drink some water at the Wiñay Wayna Visitor Center. The path is clearly marked but try to avoid getting too close to the edge of the cliff.
It is forbidden to camp in Inti punku. You will leave your equipment at the control gate and enjoy the most important monument in this part of the continent. You will have time to visit Machupicchu until noon. Check the train schedule to return to Cusco.
If you plan to stay in the town of Machupicchu (also called “Aguas Calientes” The distance from the station to the ruins bridge to Machupicchu is 2 km. This takes about 20 minutes down a narrow path, which runs parallel to the line railroad
Climate and Environment
The climate is relatively mild around the year, with heavy rains from November to March, dry and hot weather from April to October, which is a recommended time to visit.
The minimum annual temperature ranges from 8 ° to 11.2 ° C. In the months of June, July and August the temperature can often drop below zero.
The maximum annual temperature varies from 20.4 ° to 26.6 °. The terrain is quite irregular, with several ravines and streams fed by the glaciers that eventually pour into the Urubamba River, which crosses the area forming a deep valley that crosses the granite base of Vilcabamba for more than 40 km through a variety of ecosystems .
Landscape
The surroundings are impressive and the balance reached between nature and Inca architecture is amazing.
The mountains of Vilcabamba have wide and high peaks that reach up to 6,000 meters as well as Salkantay and Humantay among others.
The mixture of mountains, jungles and valleys create a fantastic world where sunrise and sunset are shrouded in mystery.
Wildlife
It is abundant and varied. The existence of endangered species such as the spectacled bear (Tremarctos omatus), the Andean Rocks Cock (Rupicola peruviana), the dwarf deer (Pudu mephistopheles), was one of the reasons for the Peruvian government to decide to declare it a Conservation Unit.
The park includes species such as the puma, the Andean fox, the river otter, Taruka (Huemul deer), wildcat, ferret, etc. There are birds in Machupicchu like the Caracara of the mountain, hummingbirds, torrent duck, parrots, wild turkey and several small birds of colorful plumages.
There are also reptiles such as the jargon and the snake micrurus coral (lethal by its venom), lizards, toads and numerous wildlife of the jungle and the Andes that inhabit the sanctuary. This abundant wildlife makes the Machupicchu sanctuary ideal for tourists and researchers who wish to watch or study animals.
Flora
The long natural areas are filled with a variety of forest species, which vary according to habitat. The vegetation of the forest is represented by trees such as: cedar, romerillo or intimpa, laurel, etc. There are also species like Ocotea, Pedocarpus, Guarea, Weinmania, Clusia, Cedropia, Cinchena, Eritrina or Pisonay, and holm oak among others. Decorative plants have made the sanctuary famous. Experts have identified more than 90 species of orchids and several species of begonias and the puya cactus. Most of the area is covered by herbs, shrubs, tree plants. The variety of conditions have created an ideal environment for the growth of various plants that goes from the thick jungle like the forest clouds to the highest parts of the mountains.
Archeology
Apart from all that has been mentioned, there is also the cultural heritage of the Incas. The Inca Trail which was well built, crosses the dense forests and deep canyons. There are 18 archaeological complexes along the way which can be seen in all their splendor.
These are composed of homes, irrigation canals, agricultural terraces, walls and sanctuaries, which are an irrefutable proof of the existence of important human settlements.
Facilities for tourists- Inca Trail to Machupicchu
Accommodations in Machupicchu- Hotels in Machu Picchu
There are many accommodation alternatives, from 20 dollars a night to more than 600 dollars a night.
Aguas Calientes
Located at a distance of 800 m. To the east of the city of Machu Picchu, there are underground sulfur hot springs that flow from the rock at different temperatures. The specially constructed swimming pools suitable for the use of mineral hot baths. The average water temperature ranges from 38 ° C to 46 ° C. There is also a change of rooms, sand baths and small cafes.
Train to Machu Picchu
To reach kilometer 82 one can go by train from Cusco or Ollantaytambo. Another alternative to reach kilometer 82 is by car transport to Km. 82.
Road transport
The only way to return from Machu Picchu or Aguas Calientes to Cusco is by train. Check the available train schedules.
Tourist transport to Machupicchu
There is a fleet of minibuses that link the Puente Ruinas station via a winding and narrow road to the highest hill of the Machu Picchu Complex. The driver takes approximately 20 minutes to get there and another 20 minutes to return.
The service goes every day, however the frequency depends on the number of tourists.
There is a road between the Puente Ruinas and the Machu Picchu complex. The walker takes approximately 1 hour.

Illusioned - Part 2 (Loki x reader)
Character: Loki
Prompt: Read Part 1 first!
Warnings: Minor coarse language and SMUT - you've been warned!
Length: 1715 words
............................................................................................................................
Stranded. That's what you were. Stranded and angry. This is why you avoided trips to Earth. You got stuck with the shitty jobs the Avengers would normally deal with. Being distantly related to Fury had its downfalls. First experimented on and now a babysitter. It was always the same. You had learnt your lesson after SHIELD had you drive an oversized Thomas the Tank Engine train away to a wreckers. Bloody Scott Lang. And now here you were.
Canada? Australia? Who the hell knew?
This was purgatory.
You were trapped in a SHIELD field station with only a god for company. How far you'd come since that fateful day in Sakaar when you'd sworn you could see yourself loving him.
God dammit!
You hated him.
You could see him now. His long legs crossed as he read his stupid book under the only tree in the confines of the compound courtyard. You frowned to yourself as you watched him out the window. Stupid Asgardian.
You knew that wasn't true though. As much as you tried to hide it, you admired his intelligence and wit. Conversations with him were never dull. Six months ago things had been strained. You'd woken up from the battle arena only to find yourself on-board the Quinjet. Thor, Loki and Bruce had escaped Sakaar and needed help defeating Hella.
The first words out of Loki's mouth had rubbed you the wrong way that day.
"Can't even look me in the eye without fainting, darling?"
From there it had been a very tumultuous road.
You looked down at the jigsaw puzzle pieces you were trying to fit together. Your anger was beginning to mutilate the pieces as you tried your best to mash them to join. It was one of the few things left by SHIELD to keep you occupied.
You were stuck in this compound until further notice. SHIELD didn't want to risk Loki contacting Thanos even with Thor's sworn oath that his brother had changed.
You glanced back out the window.
The setting sun caught his raven hair. Even from this distance you could she his startling eyes and high cheekbones. He was the most handsome sight you'd ever seen.
You sighed.
If you were truthful with yourself, you didn't hate him. That was the furthest thing from the truth. At first, it was his indifference towards you that had hurt you most. Especially after what you had felt in that dream.
You pictured it now so clearly. His hands roaming your body and eyes locked with yours. You pushed that from your mind. It was an internal promise that you wouldn't think about that dream ever. But sometimes you just couldn't help it.
You had tried to ignore that things had been changing. The stolen glances, his smirk when you joked with him, how he seemed to enjoy your long conversations and debates.
You shoved away from the table finally frustrated by the puzzle pieces that weren't cooperating and made your way out into the sun.
It sure hadn't started like this. You could barely stand to be around each other until you had become stranded here.
His eyes met yours as you plopped down on the grass beside him.
"Hey," he murmured, a knowing smile meeting his lips, "I knew you wouldn't last thirty minutes with that puzzle."
You rolled your eyes.
"What are you reading today?"
His lips pursed together slightly as he dropped his gaze to the book.
"It's on a country called Iceland," he said holding up the cover of a picturesque waterfall, "I wanted to study some of their Norse mythology about my family."
The teasing smirk on his lips made you chuckle.
"I went there when I was twenty one, you know? It was the best spring break I've ever taken."
His eyes lit up.
"What did you see?"
"Seljalandsfoss waterfall, the northern lights, even a coffee shop called Loki's Café in Reykjavik," you laughed.
"You're joking!"
"Not in the least. There was a Odin's Beard Restaurant, too."
"Show me," he murmured.
A nervous trickle ran through your spine. You'd been resorting to this form a communication a lot these days. Loki was such a curious being. The fact that you could 'show' him things was something he'd never encountered in the nine realms before and it fascinated him. It was also the reason you'd been sent as babysitter. You were the only one that could blind him of sight and sound if needed.
You shuffled closer to face him on the grass. Slowly one palm came to rest against his cheek and the other took his hand. You cleared your mind of your surroundings and focused clearly on your Iceland trip.
It was easy now you had practice. You ran over the feeling of walking under Seljalandsfoss waterfall, the freezing temperature as you watched the dim northern lights, and the feeling of the Blue Lagoon's water sensually soothing your skin.
Simultaneously you could feel his own feelings to these new scenes. Wonder at the size and sound of the roar of Seljalandsfoss, fascination at the lights playing in the sky, and then as your body slid into the Lagoon....lust.
His feelings echoed in your mind, yanking up that old dream of his fingers tracing your skin, the look on his face as you moaned his name...
You yanked your hands away before you could think through it all. He had already seen too much.
"(Y/N)?"
You couldn't meet his eyes. This was the moment you had been trying to avoid for the last six months.
"(Y/N), please look at me," his finger came to rest under your chin sending your pulse racing.
You cautiously met his blue orbs as embarrassment crept through your body.
"When did you have that dream?"
"The night before I met you. The night before the Sakaar breakout," you murmured, keeping your voice even and confident.
"It wasn't the only thing you saw though was it?"
"No," you nodded, "When we first locked eyes, I saw us fighting on the quinjet. And escaping on Odin's horse from Hella before Surtur finished her. And us in a bedroom... Just flickers of scenes that made no sense at the time."
"I dreamt of you too," Loki's velvet voice murmured, "Long before we met."
Your jaw dropped as his fingers traced patterns on your palms.
"You what...Why?...You never said anything?" you stuttered, fighting to keep the butterflies from fluttering in your stomach.
"Neither did you."
"You hated me when we first met."
"I didn't hate you."
"You rarely spoke to me and even then we agued from dusk till dawn," you whispered, trying to remember every detail from the beginning in this new light.
"It was easier to be angry then to let myself feel what was bubbling under the surface," his own eyes were full of sadness, "It was stupid, I know."
"You were angry because you had feelings for a mere human," you stated, seeing straight through him.
It was his turn to avoid your gaze.
In a flash, a shot of fury raced through your veins. You were on your feet in an instant.
"I knew it! Of course I couldn't ever be good enough for His Highness," you shouted with venom as you stalked away, doing your best to keep tears from forming.
Where was this coming from? Had this been bubbling in your subconscious for a lot longer than you'd dare admit?
"(Y/N), please let me explain," he begged, his lithe body keeping up easily with your pace.
"You don't deserve the chance..." you choked out, reaching for the door.
"I love you!"
You stopped dead in your tracks, your hand still grasping the door knob.
"I know I was a fool and an idiot and I don't deserve the chance to explain, let alone be with you. I've been trying to figure out the right way to say how I feel and I can't hold it in any longer."
You could see the desperation and hope in his eyes. It was the most unusual sight. Loki was normally so confident and composed. Yet here he was. No more than a man telling a woman he loved her.
He loved you.
Your anger evaporated as his lips crashed to yours. You could feel the pent up desire and relief as you kissed him back hungrily. He wasn't one for self control as your back slammed against the door. It was enough for an unsolicited moan to escape your lips. You arched against him as his hands explored you lower back, tracing your spine and running softly up to your neck.
Anticipation coursed through you as your fingers tugged gently on his hair. The growl that rumbled through his chest went straight to your heat. He seemed to sense the effect he was having on you, or maybe it was vice versa, and yanked the door from your way.
Lifting you easily, he wrapped your legs around his waist and carried you inside. You could feel his growing hardness pressing against your thigh as he sat on the lounge.
His lips found yours again. This time his pace was slow, almost reverent. He took time to learn this new dance and what pleased you most.
His fingers ran up length of your back and tugged at your shirt and bra gently.
"May I?" he asked, eyeing the shirt with contempt.
"Yes," you nearly moaned. Before you had the chance to blink, your shirt had materialised off your body and appeared folded on the coffee table beside your black bra.
"You can undress people? With just your mind?"
"One of my many talents, love," he purred.
But you were too lost for words now. He sat shirtless under you and it was a sight you had never truly prepared for. No dream had done him justice. His torso was perfectly sculpted. Muscly yet lean, he was the image of a perfect marble Greek statue. And he was yours.
His name feel from your lips like a prayer as his mouth found your nipple.
There was a smirk on his lips.
"What are you so smug about?" you gasped, barely able to speak as his fingers tugged gently at your pants.
"I have the most beautiful woman in all the nine realms straddling me."
You shook your head. He was such an idiot sometimes.
"And I love you, more than you'll ever know."
Your finger traced the length of his cheekbone as you answered.
"I love you, too."
And with that, you wasted the night with soft moans and stolen kisses. If this was purgatory, you'd accept it gladly.
